WSOC: Lasell blanks Norwich for third straight GNAC shutout

Northfield, Vt. – The Lasell University Lasers women's soccer team defeated the Norwich University Cadets, 3-0, Wednesday at Sabine Field.

The Lasers improve to 3-2 and 3-0 in the GNAC while the Cadets fall to 2-3 and 1-3 in the GNAC.

Freshman Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, Mass.) scored in the 16th minute for Lasell off an assist from junior Alex Lorenzo (Pawtucket, R.I.) to give the Lasers a lead that they would never look back from. 

Lorenzo played a corner-kick service from senior Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine) over to the center of the goal and then Martinelli buried the ball into the center of the net from point-blank range to give Lasell the 1-0 lead. 

Freshman Alyssa DeOliveira (East Providence, R.I.) made it 2-0 Lasell with a rocket shot from 25-yards out that beat senior Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.)  to the far post off an assist from junior Maria Henriquez (Malden, Mass.) in the 39th minute. 

Speight capped the scoring in the 67th minute with a goal off an assist from graduate student Narissa Libby (Gorham, Maine) to make it 3-0 Lasers. Speight buried the ball into the left corner of the net from outside the penalty box for the goal.

Lasell outshot Norwich 27-5 for the game. Sophomore Kyli Swann (Queen Creek, Ariz.) picked up the victory in goal for the Lasers after making two saves

The Lasers will be back in action Saturday, September 25, when they travel to Saint Joseph Connecticut for a conference matchup with kick off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
