WSOC: Lasell dominant in first home game of the year

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers women's soccer team defeated the Dean College Bulldogs, 3-0, Saturday September 18 at Taylor Field.

Freshman Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, Mass.) assisted on all three goals and her fellow classmate Alyssa DeOliveira (East Providence, R.I.) put two in the back of the net.

26 seconds into the game saw the Lasers score the first goal when Martinelli carried the ball down the left side and crossed into the center of the box finding DeOliveira who headed it past the keeper. Five minutes later Martinelli created another goal when she crossed a ball from the left side into the center of the box to find a charging senior Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine) hitting the ball first-time with her left foot into the left corner.

Less than three minutes after halftime is when the Lasers added their third goal. Martinelli got past two defenders and drove towards the near post on the left side. She crossed the ball toward the back post finding the feet of DeOliveira shooting it first-time into the left corner.

Senior Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) got the win for the Lasers making the only save she was call upon for.

Lasell had the edge in shots 27-1 and corners 10-0.

The Lasers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 22nd when they make the trip to Norwich University for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
