WSOC: Lasers have strong showing in conference opener

Boston, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers women's soccer team defeated the Emmanuel College Saints, 3-0, to open GNAC play at Roberto Clemente Field.

Freshman Alyssa DeOliveira (East Providence, R.I.) scored her first and second goals for the Lasers. Sophomore goalkeeper Kyli Swann (Queen Creek, Ariz.) got her first career win in net and first career shutout making five saves.

DeOliveira got the Lasers on the board in the 40th minute following a cross on the right wing from sophomore Charlie Arellano (West Covina, Calif.). The cross was knocked down around the penalty spot where DeOliveira put the loose ball into the back of the net.

Eight minutes after the second half began freshman Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, Mass.) scored her first career goal for the Lasers to double the lead. DeOliveira found Martinelli with a through ball, who then cutback to her left foot and lofted a shot over the goalie. In the 67th minute DeOliveira added her second and the Lasers third. Senior Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine) had her shot saved and DeOliveira pounced on the rebound at the back post and put it home.

The Lasers will be back in action on Wednesday September 15 when they travel to Southern Maine for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match. Emmanuel will take on Bridgewater State on September 16th for their next match.
