Lasell Moves to 6-0 in GNAC with 5-1 Victory over Rivier in Women's Soccer

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell College women's soccer team netted five goals, three in the second half to pick up their sixth consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory over Rivier University. The Lasers improved to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the league, while Rivier dropped to 2-6-1 on the year and 1-4-1 in the conference.

Bridget Lynch (DOver, N.H.) collected her third hat-trick of the season, scoring three goals in the second half, while Kayla Lynch (Dover, N.H.) finished with a goal and an assist, and freshmen Molly Masiero (Richmond, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal in the victory. Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) made a pair of saves in goal, while improving to 8-1 on the year. Mariah Payne scored the lone goal for the Raiders, who saw Cassandra Brown make five saves in a losing effort.

Masiero got the scoring started for Lasell, sending a beautiful cross from Kayla Lynch into the back of the net in the 13th minute. Kayla Lynch then put the hosts ahead 2-0 touching down a throw-in from Mary Kate Dunphy (Wareham, Mass.) hitting a solid strike part Brown in the 18th minute.

Rivier drew back to 2-1 in the 48th minute when Payne beat Pappalardo with a shot from the top of the 18', but the Raiders were unable to get any closer. In the 53rd minute Jamie Osterberg sprung Bridget Lynch on a counter attack with a long pass that Lynch touched past the keeper and finished into an empty net. Molly Fitzgerald (Haverhill, Mass.) then drove the end-line and played a well timed cross that Lynch slid past Brown for her second goal of the match. Bridget Lynch completed the hat-trick with an unassisted goal in the 71st minute to produce the 5-1 final result.

Rivier will travel to Daniel Webster for a 3pm kick-off on Wednesday September 26th, and Lasell will be off until Saturday September 29th when they will visit Emerson for a 3pm tilt.
