Women's Soccer Kicks Off the Season with a Win at Coast Guard

New London, Conn.- In her collegiate debut, first year athlete Reegan Brackett (Scarborough, ME) scored the first goal of the season as the Lasell College women's soccer team took home a 2-1 non-conference victory over Coast Guard Academy, on Saturday afternoon.

Brackett made her mark less than eight minutes into the contest when junior Allyson Bushey (Westminster, Mass.) provided her with the opportunity to put the Lasers ahead 1-0.  The Lasers created many outstanding chances to pull ahead, outshooting the Bears 14-3 in the half, however, at halftime Lasell remained ahead by just one goal.

The deciding goal was scored just over four minutes into the second half when Lasell received an own-goal* to boost their advantage to 2-0.  The Lasers remained dominant again in the second half, finding 17 shot attempts to Coast Guards six.  The Bears did find the net to pull the game to 2-1 when Katie Kurek scored off a rebound with just under three minutes left.

At the finale of the contest, Lasell's netminder Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, Mass.) took home her first win of the season, making five saves in goal.  Overall, the Lasers outshot the Bears by 31-9, with nearly every athlete attempting at least one shot.

Lasell, now 1-0-0 on the season, will play again on Thursday, September 10th at 4:00 p.m. at Colby Sawyer College.
