WLax: Lasers Come Up Just Short Against USJ

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers Women's Lacrosse team fell 13-12 in a conference match against USJ on Wednesday. The Lasers fell to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in GNAC play, while the Blue Jays are now 5-2 and 1-2.

The Lasers scored first, as Teresa Kessner and Kaitlin Bedell each scored in the first five minutes. After USJ cut the lead in half, Kaleigh Kosta scored her first goal of the season to put the Lasers up 3-1. The Lasers then opened the second quarter up with a goal from Teresa Kesnner to go up 4-1. After the Blue Jays scored twice to close the gap, the Lasers got a goal from Bedell to go up 5-3. But USJ scored twice in the final two minutes of the half to tie things up at five.

In an offense filled third quarter, the Lasers got two goals from Teresa Kessner, two goals from Emily Chapdelaine, and one goal from Kaitlin Bedell. But the Blue Jays matched the Lasers goal for goal, and scored four goals of their own to send the game to the fourth quarter with the Lasers up 10-9. After the Lasers got a goal from Bedell early in the fourth, the Blue Jays scored four straight goals to go up 13-11. Emily Chapdelaine pulled the Lasers within one with a little over a minute remaining. Despite winning the ensuing draw, the Lasers were unable to find an equalizer, and fell 13-12.

As has been the case all season, the Lasers offense centered around three players, as Kaitlin Bedell and Teresa Kessner each had four goals while Emily Chapdelaine scored three. Bedell also had two assists. Chapdelaine led the team with seven ground balls, while Sam Jones led the team with three caused turnovers. Goalie Joy Sayah made 11 saves in the loss.
