SB: Lasers Suffer First Loss in GNAC Tournament to Sharks

Newton, MA – The Lasell University softball team lost to the Simmons Sharks in winner's bracket play of the GNAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon, 6-0. The loss moves the Lasers to the loser's bracket while the Sharks advance to play in the Pod B championship on Sunday.

Simmons got on the board early as a passed ball scored a runner from third in the first inning, giving the Sharks an early lead.

Later on in the fourth, an error and walk gave the Sharks second and third with none out for Trinity Payne who would single in a runner extending the lead to two. The next batter would send a sacrifice fly to right field scoring another run. A single would give them runners on first and third and a fielder's choice brought in another run. Simmons would cap the scoring after a Teagan Buckley single scored two more Sharks making it a 6-0 game.

The Lasers wouldn't be able to get anything going offensively over the next three innings tallying just one hit.

Eryn Sheeley (11-6) started for Lasell and received the loss. She tossed three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on six hits while walking two and striking out three.

Offensively, Brianna Gendreau, Sheeley and Shyanne Raccio all singled.
