SB: Lasers' Bats Stay Hot Against Beavers

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers swept a doubleheader against the UMaine-Farmington Beavers on Wednesday, winning game one 10-1, and game two 12-4. The Lasers won both games due to the eight run mercy rule. The Lasers are now 9-5 while the Beavers are 1-9.

Game One

After two scoreless innings, the Beavers scored first in the third inning. But the Lasers responded with authority in the fourth, putting up 10 runs. It started with a Katie Hopkins single, followed by an Abigail Fortin walk. After a fielders's choice, Matara Tamzarian singled to load the bases. Angelena Piers then gave the Lasers the lead with a two RBI single. The Lasers then reloaded the bases on an Emily Stilwell single. Ally Kirck followed that up with a two RBI double. The Lasers would go up 5-0 on a Brianna Gendreau RBI single. Two more runs scored on a Mackenzie Still double. Still then scored on a Fortin single. Grace Stephenson wrapped up the scoring with a two run homerun, the first of her career. The Lasers would then shut down the Beavers in the fifth to take the win

The Lasers had 11 hits in the game, with Ally Kirck and Matara Tamzarian each recording two. Four different Lasers had two RBI in Kirck, Mackenzie Still, Grace Stephenson, and Angelena Piers. Abigail Fortin went all five innings on the mound for the Lasers, allowing just two hits and one earned run. She struck out five and walked two.

Game Two

Each team scored one run in the first, with the Lasers scoring on an ALyssa Bland RBI single. The Lasers then went up 2-1 in the third on a ground out. The Lasers then found themselves behind after the Beavers put up a run in the fourth and two in the fifth. But the Lasers put up their second 10 run inning of the day to walk off the game. Mackenzie Still started things off with a walk, and advanced to third a few batters later on an error. Angelena Piers then smoked a two RBI double to tie things up. Matara Tamzarian then singled home another run. After the Lasers loaded the bases, Ally Kirck hit a two RBI double to put the Lasers up 7-4. An RBI single from Brianna Gendreau increased the lead, while the Lasers' third two RBI double of the inning put them up 10-4, this time off the bat of Mackenzie Still. After a ground out scored another run, Emily Mestas walked things off with an RBI single.

The Lasers had 10 hits in the game, with nine different batters recording a hit. Mackenzie Still was the lone Laser with multiple hits. Ally Kirck, Mackenzie Still, Emily Mestas, and Angelena Piers each had two RBI. Eryn Sheeley picked up the win for the Lasers, going all five innings and allowing seven hits and four runs, three of which were earned. She struck out 10 and walked two.
