SB: Lasers Split Doubleheader in Florida

Auburndale, FL - The Lasell Lasers split their doubleheader on Thursday, falling to Minnesota-Morris 6-2, and beating Ripon 6-4. The Lasers are now 4-4 on the season.

Game One vs Minnesota-Morris

The game began as a pitcher's duel, with neither team scoring in the first three innings. The Cougars scored first in the fourth, before the Lasers responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. The first was on an Emily Mestas RBI single, while the second was on a Brianna Gendreau RBI double. But the Cougars responded right back with two in the fifth and three in the sixth, giving them the 6-2 win

The Lasers had 11 hits in the game, with Emily Mestas, Brianna Gendreau, Abigail Fortin, and Alyssa DeMarest each recording two. Fortin was also the starting pitcher, pitching a complete game, allowing 12 hits and six runs. She struck out two hitters.

Game Two vs Ripon

The Red Hawks got out to the early lead, scoring two in the second,and one in the third to take a 3-0 lead. But the Lasers would fight back. After the first three batters reached base in the fifth, Grace Stephenson doubled home two to draw the Lasers within one. The next inning Katie Hopkins led off with a home run, the first of the Lasers' season. Stephenson then walked with the bases loaded to give the Lasers the lead. Brianna Gendreau would then single home a run to put the Lasers up 6-2. The Red Hawks got one run back in the bottom of the sixth, but the Lasers would hold on to win 6-4.

Both Brianna Gendreau and Katie Hopkins recorded three hits, while Eryn Sheeley and Alyssa Bland each had two. Sheeley started on the mound for the Lasers, going all seven innings, allowing nine hits and four runs, two of which were earned. She struck out 10 and walked just two.

Up Next - The Lasers will wrap up their Spring Break trip on Friday when they take on Oswego at 9am and Wesleyan at 11:30am.
