SB: Lasers Fall in Both Games of Florida Doubleheader

Auburndale, FL - The Lasell Lasers fell in both games of their doubleheader on Tuesday, losing to Gallaudet 4-3, and St. Mary's (Ind.) 7-4. The Lasers are now 3-3 on the season.

Game One vs Gallaudet

Gallaudet got out to an early lead scoring a run in the first. They would double up their lead with another run in the fifth. The Lasers' bats came to life in the sixth, as Brianna Gendreau led the inning off with a walk. After Mackenzie Still walked, and Grace Stephenson singled, the bases were loaded for Katie Hopkins.  Hopkins would hit a double of her own to score two runs. The next batter was Angelena Piers, and she would bring Stephenson home with a sacrifice fly, giving the Lasers a 3-2 lead. But Lasell would not hold on to the lead for long, as the Bison would score two in the bottom half of the inning. The Lasers would get two runners in scoring position in the seventh, but were unable to push a run across, giving the Bison the 4-3 win

Six of the seven hits for the Lasers came from Brianna Gendreau, Mackenzie Still, and Katie Hopkins, with each collecting two hits. The other hit came from Grace Stephenson. Hopkins had two RBI, while Angelena Piers had the other. Starting pitcher Abigail Fortin went all six innings for the Lasers, allowing seven hits and four runs, two of which were earned. She struck out five and walked four.

Game Two vs St. Mary (Ind.)

After the Belles got two runs in the top half of the first, the Lasers responded with two of their own. The first came on a Grace Stephenson RBI single, while the second came on a sacrifice fly. Lasell would then take a 3-2 lead in the second on an Eryn Sheeley RBI single. But the Belles would respond with a run in the third, a run in the fourth, and three runs in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead. The Lasers would get one run back in the seventh on an Angelena Piers RBI single. But it would not be enough, as the Belles took the game 7-4.

The Lasers had 10 hits in the game, with nine different player having at least one. Mackenzie Still was the lone Laser to collect multiple hits. Eryn Sheeley started on the mound for the Lasers, and pitched six innings, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs. She struck out four, and walked two. Abigail Fortin would pitch a clean inning in the seventh
