Men’s Cross Country Earns 5th at Monks Invitational

Standish, ME- Matthew Scully (Watertown, Conn.) led the Lasell College men's cross country team to a 5th place finish at the Runnin' Monks Invitational, hosted by St. Joseph's College of Maine, on Saturday afternoon.  The freshman was awarded Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week by the GNAC for his performance in the race. 

As in the four consecutive prior races, Scully was the top finisher for Lasell.  His time of 29:52 on the 8K course placed him at 14th overall in the race.  Scully was also the 6th place finisher of all the GNAC runners in the meet.

Three other Lasers finished in the top 25 of the race.  The first year pair of Patrick Slight (Franklin, Mass.) and Isaac Soares (Somerset, Mass.) came in 21st and 23rd respectively at the meet, with times of 30:31 and 30:39. 

Senior Zachary Lambert (Marlborough, Mass.) rounded out the top four Lasers in the race with a 24th place finish, completing the course in 30 minutes 56 seconds.

Also helping the Lasers to their top finish on the challenging five mile course were junior Kris McCabe (Kingston, NY), freshman Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.), and sophomore Raymon Donis (Raynham, Mass.).  McCabe earned the 28th spot and ran the course in 31:46. Taveras finished just five seconds and one place behind McCabe and Donis completed in 33:26 with a 39th place rank.  

Grant Vantine (Fitchburg, Mass.), David Walsh (Springfield, Mass.), and Mike Isherwood (Warwick, RI) also finished the course for Lasell.  Vantine ran a time of 34:09, Walsh completed in 35:13, and Isherwood ended the race with a time of 37:15.

Lasell competes next at the Saints Invitational at Franklin Park on Friday, October 16th.  The Lasers will also celebrate their seniors on Saturday, October 17th during Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend at Lasell College during the halftime of the women's soccer contest, which starts at noon.
