Lasers Compete in Top Form at Pop Crowell

WENHAM, MA. - The Lasell College men's cross country team continued on its winning ways this weekend as they placed tenth overall at the Pop Crowell Invitational, this Saturday.

The Invitational is put on by Gordon College each year on an 8K course which spans the Wenham, Massachusetts campus.  This year, however, the teams faced additional tricks from the weather as the athletes ran in torrential downpours through the five mile course.

Gordon College's men's team finished in first place, followed by GNAC competitors Johnson and Wales University, of Rhode Island.   Rhode Island College clenched the third place victory.

The Lasers were paced once again by freshman Matthew Scully (Watertown, Conn.) who has come produced the first finish for Lasell in each race this year. Scully earned 26th place overall in a 221 man field, running an outstanding time of 28:17.

Zachary Lambert (Marlborough, Mass.) followed Scully in the tough conditions, finishing with a time of 29:44 on the 8K.  First year tandem Patrick Slight (Franklin, Mass.) and Isaac Soares (Somerset, Mass.) came through the finish next, just two seconds apart, at 29:53 and 29:55.  Slight and Soares came in 68th and 69th place correspondingly.

The next Laser runner was freshman Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.) who was 90th, closing out in 30:52, and senior David Walsh (Springfield, Mass.) was two places behind Taveras, finishing at 30:58.

Rounding out Lasell's top seven was Kris McCabe (Kingston, NY) who completed the meet in 31 minutes, 31 seconds.

The Lasers ended the day tied for 10th place with Division II Saint Anselm College of New Hampshire.  Both teams earned 302 points

Lasell returns to action on October 10th at the Running Monks Invitational, hosted by St. Joseph's College, in Standish, Maine.
