Lasers Race to 5th Place Finish at GNAC Championships

Nashua, NH-The Lasell College men's cross country team competed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship meet on Saturday, October 31st, finishing in 5th place overall in the league.  Johnson & Wales University was the top team, finishing with just 17 points, while second place was a tie between Norwich University and Emerson College, earning 80 points apiece. 

 

Six of the top ten finishers were from Johnson & Wales, including the top runner, freshman Greg Redfield (Penfield, NY) who completed in a time of 27:14.81. 

 

The first Laser to cross the finish line was freshman Matthew Scully (Watertown, Conn.).  Scully completed the 8K in 29:56.54, and took 19th place overall out of the 81 runners competing.  Shortly thereafter was senior Zachary Lambert (Marlborough, Mass.) in 21st place, with a time of 30:01.20.  Scully and Lambert were the only two Lasers to break the top 25.

 

Four Lasers finished in a row earning 29th through 32nd places.  Patrick Slight (Franklin, Mass.) was the first of the four to finish, with a time of 31:05.92.   David Walsh (Springfield, Mass.) was next, running a time of 31:10.19, followed by Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.) and Isaac Soares (Somerset, Mass.).  Taveras completed in 31 minutes, 13.05 seconds and Soares ended at 31 minutes, 27.73 seconds.

 

In 35th and 36th place respectively were Lasell's Kris McCabe (Kingston, NY) and Raymon Donis (Raynham, Mass.).  McCabe finished the course in 32:04.68 and Donis was just 11 seconds behind him.

 

Rounding out those completing the five mile course for Lasell were Grant Vantine (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Micheal Isherwood (Warwick, RI).  Vantine came in 47th place with an overall completion time of 34:39.09 and Isherwood ended in 39:56.31, earning 66th place.

 

Lasell's next race will be at the ECAC Championships in Williamsburg, Massachusetts, on November 7th, 2009.
