Men’s Cross Country Runs Away with 1st Victory

Cambridge, Mass.- The Lasell College men's cross country team took eight out of the top ten finishes in the President's Cup 2009 Dual Meet between the Lasers and Lesley University, running away with their first victory of the 2009 season.  The Lasers won 15-50 over the Lynx.

 

Lasell was paced by first year Matthew Scully (Watertown, Conn.) who finished the five mile course in 28:44 and took second place at the event.  Scully was awarded GNAC Rookie of the Week this week for his stellar performance in his first collegiate meet.

 

Coming in fourth overall, and second for the Lasers, was senior Zach Lambert (Marlborough, Mass.).  Lambert finished the 8K in 29:55, and was selected as GNAC Runner of the Week for his efforts in helping Lasell to their first win.

 

Also placing in the top ten, ranked in order were Patrick Slight (Franklin, Mass.), Miguel Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.), Isaac Soares (Somerset, Mass.), Dave Walsh (Springfield, Mass.), Mark Johnson (Wellesley, Mass.), and Grant Vantine (Fitchburg, Mass.). 

 

Slight is a first year who earned his spot in fifth by running a 30:06.  Less than a minute later, Taveras and Soares closed in on 6th and 7th.   Senior captain Walsh was the 8th to complete at 32:11, while Johnson and Vantine ended at 33:50 and 34:06 respectively.

 

The Lasers will hit the road next to Roger Williams University, on Saturday, September 12th.
