Men's Volleyball: Lasers keep rolling with 3-0 sweep of Regis

WESTON, Mass. - Jordan ShinautTheo Zaharewicz and Jan Baranowski recorded a combined 29 kills for the Lasell University men's volleyball team during a 3-0 triumph over Great Northeast Athletic Conference-rival Regis Thursday evening.

The Lasers (19-8, 12-2 GNAC) have won seven consecutive matches, with six being sweeps. Junior setter Jesus Garcia finished with a match-high 23 assists and freshman Alex Weinhaus led all players with eight digs. 

The Lasers were efficient at the net with a team hitting percentage of .379. Baranowski led the way with a .889 hitting percentage, while Shinaut and Zaharewicz registered marks of .450 and .438, respectively. Baranowski compiled three total blocks, tied for the most in the match.

"The guys played another great game today," said Lasell University Men's Volleyball Head Coach Jeff Vautrin. "Our offense was firing on all cylinders and our defense kept us in system more often than not. Theo Zaharewicz had a great overall performance. Jordan Shinaut and Jan Baranowski were monsters at the net on the offensive and defensive end. It is great to see this type of overall play leading into playoffs."

Josh Nolen (6 kills), Brendan Lam (10 assists) and Tyrell Bucasas (9 assists) played well for the Pride (12-14, 7-7 GNAC). 

Lasell came out clicking on all cylinders, taking a 7-2 advantage on a service ace by Baranowski in the first set. A kill by Shinaut gave the visitors an 18-10 advantage. Shinaut finished with six first-set kills and team totaled 14, as Lasell took the opening set, 25-19.

Nine straight service points by Garcia powered the Lasers to a 10-1 cushion during the second set. An ace by freshman Dexter Thomas allowed Lasell to earn a 25-15 triumph. During the second set, the Lasers compiled a .462 hitting percentage.

The Lasers kept their foot on the gas pedal in the third set, building a 10-4 lead on an ace by Zaharewicz. A kill by Shinaut put the unit in front, 24-16, and then Baranowski tallied a match-clinching kill, giving the team a 25-18 win.

The Lasers will close out the regular season Saturday with a tri-match in New London, New Hampshire. Lasell will compete against GNAC-rivals Colby-Sawyer and Emmanuel, with start times set for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
