MSOC: Lasers bag first win of the season in overtime

Lawrence, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers men's soccer team defeated the Fisher College Falcons, 2-1, Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The win improves the Lasers to 1-6 on the year while the Falcons fall to 5-3 on the year.

The Falcons got on the board first in the seventh minute when sophomore Juan Pablo Villalobos (El Paso, Texas) dribbled around two defenders into the box and, fired a shot that deflected off a Laser defender and past freshman Gabriel Bazikas (Southborough, Mass.).

The Lasers had an answer in the 72nd minute on a long throw from senior Chris Belliveau (Peabody, Mass.). From the right sideline Belliveau threw it into the box going over the head of one Laser and two Falcons where junior Michael Palumbo (Boston, Mass.) beat the defender to the ball to head it into the back of the net off the bounce.

24 seconds into overtime saw the Lasers net the winning goal from the penalty spot. Senior Jake Ouellette (East Granby, Conn.) stood over the ball took a slow run up and placed it in the bottom right corner.

Bazikas got his first colligate win making four saves on five shots on goal.

Fisher held the advantage in shots, 16-12, while Lasell held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-4.

The Lasers will be back in action on Sunday, September 26, when they travel to Curry College for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
