MSOC: Lasell falls in GNAC clash with Saint Joseph

Newton, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers men's soccer team fell to fellow GNAC opponent the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays, 6-2, Wednesday at Taylor Field.

The Lasers fall to 0-6 and 0-3 in the GNAC while the Blue Jays improve to 4-1-1 and 2-1 in the GNAC.

The Blue Jays got on the board first when junior Juan Torres (Hartford, Conn.) hit a ball first-time into the bottom left corner after receiving a cross from senior DeAnte Anderson (Bloomfield, Conn.) After assisting on the goal two minutes before Anderson found himself standing over a penalty kick which he blasted into the top left corner for the goal. In the 12th minute senior Chris Belliveau (Peabody, Mass.) threw a ball into the box close to the penalty spot which found the head of sophomore Jaydon Perez (Amherst, Mass.) who put it past the goalie for his first collegiate goal. The Blue Jays grabbed another goal in the 19th minute following a shot by Anderson that was slowed down by the hand of senior Zack Laware (Wilbraham, Mass.), then junior Joel Agbetossou (Hartford, Conn.) tapped the ball in before it crossed the goal line. Two minutes later Torres stood over a free kick on the left side of the field and lofted a ball toward goal flying over Laware and into the right-side netting. Six minutes later the Lasers answered back with another long throw from Belliveau that hit off the leg of junior Alex Melo (Haverhill, Mass.) which found its way through the defense and past the goalie for the goal. The Blue Jays answered a minute later when Agbetossou got hit in the chest by a sliding clearance by a Laser defender. He was able to settle the ball down and put it in the back of the net to cap off a seven goal first half between the teams.

Sophomore Brian Silva (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored the only goal of the second half after intercepting a Lasell pass and taking it himself before powering it past the keeper.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, September 25, when they travel to take on Fisher College at 12:00 p.m.
