MLax: Lasers Rack Up 13 GNAC Honors; Leonard Named Defensive Player of the Year

Newton, MA - The GNAC announced their end of the year awards, and the Lasers were well represented, with 11 regular season honors and two postseason honors.

Magnus Leonard was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and named to the All-GNAC First Team. Often responsible for defending the other team's best player, Leonard ranked fourth on the team with 22 caused turnovers. He also had 27 ground balls. This is the second time Leonard has been named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year, also winning it in 2021. In addition to the two DPOY awards and two GNAC first teams, Leonard was also named to the GNAC's third team in 2022.

The GNAC's second team was littered with Lasers, as five players received the honor. Patrick Mulhern, Landon Reyes, Francis Pino, Zach Mills, and Matthew Carbone were each named to the team. Reyes had previously been named to the third team in 2022. Mulhern led the team in both goals (33) and assists (19). Reyes ranked second in goals (32) and sixth in assists (10). Pino was second on the team with 51 groundballs and fifth in caused turnovers with 21. He also added five goals and three assists. Mills had 15 caused turnovers on the season. Rounding out the second teamers was Matthew Carbone. He led the team with 121 groundballs and went 216-375 on faceoffs.

Tyler Rose and Michael Catalano were each named to the third team. This was Rose's fourth time being named to a GNAC all-conference team, being named to the first team in 2022, and second team in 2019 and 2021. Rose broke the program record for caused turnovers in a season with 54, a number that led the GNAC. It puts his career total at 139, the second most in school history. He is one of only two players with over 100 in their career, joining David Sheehan who had 161. Catalano started in goal in all but one game this season for the Lasers. He went 10-7 in net, making 190 saves and allowing 9.38 goals per game.

Jack Tauson was named to the GNAC All-Rookie team. He was third on the team with 27 goals, and third in both assists (14) and points (41).

Additionally, Landon Reyes and Patrick Mulhern were each named to the GNAC All-Tournament Team. Reyes collected five goals and two assists in the GNAC playoffs, while Mulhern had four goals and four assists.

Kyle Charlot was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team. Charlot was expected to be a key contributer on the team, but lost his season to an injury suffered in practice before the first game of the season. Despite the setback, Charlot found other ways to contribute off the field, helping coaches at practice and during the games.
