MLax: Lasers Clinch GNAC #2 Seed with Win Over Wildcats

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers played the JWU Wildcats on Tuesday, defeating them 10-6. The win clinched the second seed in the upcoming GNAC playoffs with a 8-2 conference record. The Lasers are now 10-6 on the season while the Wildcats are 10-6 and 5-5.

The Lasers struck first, scoring on a David Burke goal five minutes into the game. After the Wildcats tied things up a few minutes later, the Lasers took the lead back with two goals in the final three minutes of the quarter. The first came from Adam Haytayan, while the second was scored by Landon Reyes.

The Wildcats would not go away though, as they scored the first two goals in the second, tying the game up at three. But the Lasers were not deterred, as they scored three straight goals, starting with a Will McCarthy goal, which was followed by two Patrick Mulhern goals. Both of Mulhern's goals were assisted by Ryan Stone. The Lasers led 6-3 at halftime.

Just how they had done all game, whenever the Lasers started to create some distance, the Wildcats answered. They scored the first two goals of the quarter to get the score to 6-5. But the Lasers offense, after being quiet all quarter, scored twice in the final 20 seconds. The first from Ryan Stone, and the second from Jack Tauson. The Lasers began to pull away in the fourth scoring twice to make it 10-5 before JWU scored the final goal of the game. Those two goals were scored by Ryan Stone and Landon Reyes.

It was a balanced attack for the Lasers, with Patrick Mulhern, Ryan Stone, and Landon Reyes each scoring two goals. Stone also added a team high three assists for a five point game. Matthew Carbone led the team with six ground balls, and went 13-18 from the faceoff circle. Tyler Rose led the team with three caused turnovers. The team had eight caused turnovers, bringing their season mark to 225, breaking the previous record of 218 set in 2019.

Up Next - The two teams will meet again on Saturday, as the Lasers host the Wildcats in the first round of the GNAC playoffs. That game will start at 1pm.
