MLax: Lasers Knock Off Emmanuel; Clinch Home Playoff Game

Boston, MA - The Lasell Lasers Men's Lacrosse team defeated the GNAC leading Emmanuel Saints 7-6 in overtime on Saturday. The Lasers are now 9-6 on the season, and 7-2 in GNAC play, while the Saints are 11-5 and 9-1. With the win, the Lasers clinched beiing at least a top four seed in the GNAC playoffs, guaranteeing the Lasers of at least hosting one home game. The Lasers are tied with Rivier and Saint Joseph's (ME) for second place in the conference, with each team having one game to play.

In what ended up being a low scoring game, the Lasers got out to a quick lead, with Jack Tauson scoring a minute into the game. David Burke then doubled the lead later in the quarter. Patrick Mulhern assisted on both of those goals. The second quarter was all Lasers, as they won all four faceoff, outshot the Saints 16-3, and collected 13 of the 15 ground balls. Despite all that, the Lasers only outscored the Saints 2-1, with Anthony DeRosa and Jack Tauson each scoring before the Saints finally got on the board to make it 4-1 Lasers at the half.

The Saints started to gain momentum in the second half, scoring the first goal of the third quarter eight minutes in. After a Landon Reyes goal for the Lasers, the Saints scored twice to close the period trailing just 5-4. The Saints then tied things up at five with four and a half minutes remaining in the game. But the Lasers responded just 16 seconds later on a goal from Ryan Stone. Patrick Mulhern had his third assist of the game on that goal. The teams traded turnovers in over the last couple of minutes, but the Saints tied things up with 12 seconds left to send the game to overtime. After winning the opening faceoff of the extra period, the Lasers won the game on a Nate Taggart goal assisted by Ryan Stone.

The Lasers were led by Jack Tauson's two goals and Patrick Mulherns' three assists. A difference maker in the game was Matthew Carbone, as he grabbed 10 ground balls, but more importantly, won 13 of 17 faceoffs. As a team, the Lasers caused 12 turnovers, with Tyler Rose forcing four of them. The Lasers peppered the Emmanuel goalie with shots, having 32 be on goal. Tauson and Landon Reyes each led the team with seven. Laser's goalie Michael Catalano picked up the win by making 10 saves.
