MLax: Lasers Lose Close One to Cadets

Northfield, VT - The Lasell Lasers Men's Lacrosse team fell to the Norwich Cadets on Tuesday by a final score of 10-9. The loss drops the Lasers to 8-6 on the season and 6-2 in GNAC play, while the Cadets are now 6-9 and 4-4.

The Lasers opened up the scoring with a Ryan Stone goal five minutes into the game. After the Cadets scored a pair soon after, the Lasers responded with a pair of their own, scoring twice in the final two minutes of the quarter on Adam Haytayan and Jack Tauson goals. The Tauson goal was assisted by Will McCarthy. The Lasers led 3-2 after one.

The two teams traded goals in the second, with Norwich striking first 90 seconds in. Will McCarthy then responded three minutes later to put the Lasers back up 4-3. Less than a minute later the Cadets tied it back up, but Casey Hart would put the Lasers back on top later in the quarter. Norwich would score twice in the final 90 seconds of the half to take a 6-5 lead at the break.

Norwich would score three times in the third to take a 9-5 lead into the fourth, but the Lasers fought back. Landon Reyes scored three straight goals to open the fourth, all in the first five minutes. Nate Taggart then tied things up for the Lasers with six and a half minutes remaining in the game. A cadet goal with two minutes left put them back on top. The Cadets won the ensuing faceoff but turned it over with 30 second left in the game. After a Lasell timeout, they were able to get a shot on goal in the final seconds, but it was saved, ending the game.

The Lasers were led by Landon Reyes on offense, as he scored three goals, and was the only Laser to score multiple times. Matthew Carbone and Casey Hart each had five groundballs, while Carbone also went 11-23 on faceoffs. Hart had a team high five caused turnovers, while Francis Pino had four. As a team the Lasers had 22 caused turnovers, just two shy of the school record. Michael Catalano had eight saves.
