MLax: 13 Players Score, as Lasers Set Program Record For Goals

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers Men's Lacrosse team stayed hot on Tuesday, scoring a program record 28 goals in a 28-4 win over GNAC opponent Albertus Magnus. The Lasers are now 7-5 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. The Falcons are now 7-5 and 1-5.

Lasell opened the game up by scoring the first six goals, with six different players finding the back of the net in Landon Reyes, David Burke, Matthew Carbone, Patrick Mulhern, Anthony DeRosa, and Adam Haytayan. Casey Hart had an assist on the Mulhern goal. After the Falcons got one back, the Lasers immediately responded with a Will McCarthy goal. The Lasers held a 7-2 lead after one period.

The second period saw the Lasers really blow things open, outscoring the Falcons 9-1 in the quarter. Ryan Stone, David Burke, Matthew Carbone, Landon Reyes and Anthony DeRosa each scored in the first five minutes, with a different Laser assisting on each of them. After the Falcons made it 12-3, the Laser scored four more unanswered goals to close out the half, with Stone scoring twice more, and Mulhern and Brendan Dean adding a tally each to give the Lasers a 16-3 lead at the half.

The third quarter was no different, as the Lasers outscored the Falcons 5-0, with goals from Adam Haytayan, Will McCarthy, Francis Pino, McCarthy again, and Brendan Dean. All but Haytayan's goal was assisted on, with Mulhern assisting on two of them.

Early in the fourth the Lasers scored their 10th unanswered goal, a strike from Mulhern assisted by Haytayan. After the Falcons scored their fourth goal, the Lasers found paydirt twice more, with goals by Jack Tauson and Landon Reyes. With the school record within sight, the Lasers scored four times in the final 150 seconds, with Mulhern, Austin Wenzel, Dean, and Tyler Rose all finding the back of the net. Jack Tauson assisted on three of those goals.

Thirteen different players scored a goal for the Lasers, but the biggest cheer came for the last goal scorer, Tyler Rose. Rose, a senior defender, has played in 61 career games for the Lasers, and the goal tonight was the first of his career.

Five different Lasers recorded a hat trick, led by Patrick Mulhern's four goals. Ryan Stone, Will McCarthy, Landon Reyes, and Brendan Dean each had three goals. Twelve different Lasers had an assist, led by Jack Tauson's four. Tauson also had six ground balls, tied with Casey Hart for the most on the team. Tyler Rose led the team with four caused turnovers, while Francis Pino and Casey Hart each had three.

Reigning GNAC Goalie of the Week Michael Catalano picked up the win, making three saves in the first half. Liam Hill came in to play the second half, and made three saves as well.

The Lasers broke two team records in this game, most goals in a game (27), and most points in a game (45). Both records were previously set in 2011, and the new records are 28 and 48. The team's 66 shots rank third in program history.
