MLax: Lasers Pick Up Senior Day Victory

Newton, MA - The Lasell Men's Lacrosse team won a competitive game on Saturday over the Rivier Raiders by a final score of 10-8. The Lasers are now 6-5 on the season, and 4-1 in GNAC play. The Raiders are now 8-3 and 4-2. Prior to the game, the Lasers honored their Seniors, Nate Whitehead, Kyle Charlot, Zach Mills, Landon Reyes, Nate Taggart, Ethan Dallas, and Magnus Leonard.

The Raiders got out to a hot start, scoring the first four goals of the game in the first eight minutes, including two man up goals. Jack Tausan put the Lasers on the board with one minutes left in the first quarter. While the first quarter was all Raiders, the second quarter was the opposite, as the Lasers outscored Rivier 4-0 in the quarter. Four different players scored the goals in Landon Reyes, Will McCarthy, Anthony DeRosa, and Patrick Mulhern. Ryan Stone assisted on two of them. DeRosa's goal was a man up. The Lasers led 5-4 at halftime.

The third quarter was more of the second, as the Lasers scored the first two goals of the quarter, giving them seven consecutive. Nate Taggart and Patrick Mulhern were the ones to score. After the Raiders broke their scoreless streak with five minutes left in the third, the Lasers got the goal right back a minute later on another Patrick Mulhern goal that made it 8-5 after three. Rivier scored the first two goals of the fourth to make it 8-7. After a David Burke goal gave Lasell some breathing room with just over a minute left in the game, the Raiders responded with a goal of their own to make it 9-8. But a Ryan Stone goal with 30 second left was all the Lasers needed, as they were able to run out the clock after that.

The Lasers had eight different goal scorers, with only Patrick Mulhern scoring more than one, as he scored three. Ryan Stone had three assists in addition to a goal, while Adam Haytayan had two assists. David Burke and Matthew Carbone led the Lasers with five ground balls each. Carbone went 8-20 from the faceoff circle, including a critical faceoff win in the final minute. Michael Catalano made 17 saves in the game.

Up Next - The Lasers return to play on Tuesday, April 11th as they host Albertus Magnus at 5pm.
