MLax: Lasers Tripped Up by Monks

Standish, ME - The Lasell Lasers fell to the Saint Joseph's (ME) monks by a final score of 13-10 on Tuesday. The loss drops the Lasers to 5-5 on the season and 3-1 in conference play, while the Monks are now 4-6 and 2-1.

Lasell scored first three and a half minutes into the game on Landon Reyes' 16th goal of the season. But that was the only Laser goal of the quarter, and the Monks scored twice in the final two minutes to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter. While the first quarter was low scoring, the second quarter was anything but, with each team scoring five goals. David Burke and Anthony DeRosa scored in the first two minutes, then the two teams traded four goals, with Matthew Carbone and Patrick Mulhern scoring for Lasell. After three goals from the Monks, the Lasers closed out the quarter on a David Burke goal, making it 7-6 Monks at the break.

The third quarter was also even, with both teams scoring three goals. The first two came from Lasell, with Nate Taggart scoring first, and then Anthony DeRosa while a man up, giving the Lasers the 8-7 lead. The teams then traded a goal each, with Adam Haytayan finding the back of the net for the Lasers. But Saint Joseph's scored twice in the final 40 seconds to take a 10-9 lead into the final period. After a Monks goal early in the quarter made it 11-9, the Lasers got back within one when DeRosa scored with eight minutes left. But the Lasers were kept off the scoreboard the rest of the way, and the Monks added two insurance goals before the horn, giving them the 13-10 win.

The Lasers were led by Anthony DeRosa's three goals. David Burke also scored twice. Ryan Stone led the team with two assists, while Matthew Carbone led the team with 11 ground balls. Carbone also went 17-24 on faceoffs. Defensively, Tyler Rose led the way with three caused turnovers. Goalie Michael Catalano made 12 saves.

Up Next - The Lasers will have a 10 day break before their next game, a home match against Rivier on Saturday, April 8th. Prior to the game the Lasers will honor their seniors as a part of Senior Day.
