MLax: Lasers Drop Season Opener to Roger Williams

Newton, MA - The Lasell Men's Lacrosse team opened their season with a 15-8 loss to the Roger Williams Hawks. The Lasers begin their season 0-1, while the Hawks move to 1-1.

The Hawks opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, and scored the first three goals of the game. Patrick Mulhern scored the Lasers' first goal of the season with 14 seconds left in the first quarter. The Lasers trailed 3-1 after the opening period. Mulhern picked up where he left off in the second quarter, scoring a second goal 90 seconds into the period. After the Hawks scored a goal, the Lasers got a goal from Matt Halpin off of a pass from Anthony DeRosa to make the score 4-3. The Hawks would then score four straight goals to close out the half. Roger Williams led 8-3 at the break.

The Lasers came out firing in the second half, scoring the first two goals of the half. The first came from Nate Taggart off of another DeRosa assist less than a minute into the third period. Taggart scored again a few minutes later to make it 8-5. After a pair of Hawks goals, the Lasers responded with another pair of their own, scoring both within 40 second of each other. The first came off the stick of David Burke, while the second came from Patrick Mulhern as he completed the hat trick. A goal from Roger Williams wrapped up the third quarter scoring, as the Hawks led 11-7 headed into the final period. After four goals from the Hawks, the Lasers scored with under a minute in the game when Adam Haytayan found the back of the net, making the final score 15-8.

Mulhern led the Lasers with three goals, with Taggert right behind with two. DeRosa led the team with two assists and seven shots. Haytayan had six shots with five on goal. Matthew Carbone led the Lasers with ground balls. In net, Michael Catalano made 14 saves.

Up Next - The Lasers will be back in actiona next Saturday, March 4th when they travel to Vassar for a 1pm start.
