NEWTON, Mass. – Alex Beauchemin left nothing on the field.

He made the most of his time with the Lasell University men's lacrosse program and never took one moment for granted. The Westfield, Massachusetts, native navigated all the challenges of being a student-athlete and won the starting goalie job as a rookie.

He was a constant for the Lasers over the last four years. Beauchemin appeared in 52 games and made 50 starts, competing in all but one game. He backstopped Lasell to three consecutive GNAC championship games, along with a conference title and berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2021. He went 38-12 in net during his career, as the team finished 39-14 overall and 23-1 in the GNAC.

"I will remember my time with this team as four of the greatest years of my life," said Beauchemin. "Through all of the ups and downs with college, lacrosse has remained a constant, and I will always look back on all of the great memories I made with my team. I was lucky to be a part of a successful team during my tenure at Lasell."

Beauchemin, who earned six GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week awards and one Rookie of the Week honor, ranks first in program history in career wins, third in saves (529), fourth in goals-against average (7.88), fifth in save percentage (.591) and sixth in saves per game (10.17). During each of the last two seasons, he was named the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year, while earning All-Conference first team laurels.

"My favorite moment as an individual would be the game against Rivier my junior year when I officially became the leader of all-time wins at Lasell," said Beauchemin. "My favorite moment as a team would be winning the GNAC championship my junior year. No feeling has compared to lifting that trophy with my teammates."

Beauchemin, who garnered All-Conference second team laurels and maintained a .882 winning percentage in 2019, broke the program's single-season wins record (15) as a rookie. The 2019 team finished 16-2 overall and 8-0 in the GNAC and reached the conference championship game. Beauchemin's 6.55 goals-against average set a school record, led the GNAC and ranked fourth nationally in Division III.

During his junior campaign, he finished 10-3 for a .769 winning percentage, backstopping the program to its second-ever GNAC crown. He made 14 crucial stops during a 15-7 triumph over Norwich in the championship game at Grellier Field on May 8, 2021. He recorded a career-high 21 saves during the first round of the NCAA Tournament against York one week later.

Beauchemin posted 12 wins during his senior year, the third most in a single season in program history. He was sensational in an 8-4 victory over Rivier in the GNAC semifinals, turning away 15-of-19 shots, while keeping the Raiders off the scoreboard during the first, third and fourth quarters.

Beauchemin participated in a Q&A segment.

Q: Your senior class, included eight seniors and one graduate student in addition to yourself. Could you talk about what it was like to compete with them?

A: This group of guys will be my friends for the rest of my life. I am lucky to have played with every one of them. We were lucky to have some key players in my class and that ensured we were going up against the best players in the league every day at practice. Our team was a close family but we were also competitive at practice, so each practice would drive us to get better and better.

Q: Who were your biggest inspirations at Lasell?

A: The most influential person during my time at Lasell was Mark DeMieri '08, who was inducted into the Lasell Hall of Fame in 2019 as a goalie for the men's lacrosse program. I met him halfway through my freshman year and he has been a mentor ever since. From training me to be a better goalie to being someone who had my back the entire way through college, I would not be the goalie or the person I am today if it were not for Mark.

I also cannot go without mentioning how important Karin Raye was to my four years at Lasell. Professor Raye will forever be one of the best people I have met in my life and I know I would not have made it through my four years without her help. From meeting her during our team's first Title IX training, to being a teacher assistant in her class, to being someone who I talk to all the time, Professor Raye has been there for me every step of the way.

Q: What was one adverse situation that you overcame during your time as a Laser?

A: The COVID-19 pandemic took away in-person learning my sophomore year of lacrosse and the ability to socialize with my teammates. This was one of the biggest obstacles I faced during my time at Lasell, as it prevented my ability to do what I love and be with my brothers. Spending time with my family got me through this difficult time, and I continuously looked forward to the next time I would step foot on Grellier Field.

Q: How would you describe Lasell?

A: I would describe Lasell as a small environment and a good place to not feel overwhelmed. From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt like I was welcome at Lasell. The school offers tons of opportunities to become the person that you want to be and that is what makes it such a good experience.

Q: Could you talk about the education you received at Lasell?

A: The quality of education at Lasell was great. I enjoyed just about all of my classes and learned a lot. Having small class sizes was important and it made my learning experience better.

Q: How did you get involved in the Lasell campus?

A: I spent a lot of time getting to know my professors and building relationships that would last after college. I also participated in multiple events on campus such as Take Back the Night, Denim Day and the White Ribbon campaign.

Q: Do you envision yourself staying involved in the Lasell men's lacrosse community?

A: I hope to stay involved with the community and give the team the same support that the alumni gave me. This program has a bright future and I am looking forward to seeing what Head Coach Dieter Treusdell does with the team. I know he will accomplish great things.
