Men's Lacrosse: Fast start powers Norwich to 12-5 win over Lasers

NEWTON, Mass. - Landon Reyes scored two goals and Ryan Stone finished with one goal and one assist for the Lasell University men's lacrosse team during a 12-5 setback against GNAC-rival Norwich on Grellier Field Wednesday afternoon.

Lasell (10-6, 9-1 GNAC) earned the No. 2 seed in the GNAC Tournament and will host seventh-seeded Saint Joseph (Conn.) Saturday at 2 p.m. on Grellier Field during the first round. Norwich (15-1, 10-0 GNAC) locked down the top seed in the conference tournament.

Anthony DeRosa and Jordan Hines also found the back of the net for the Lasers Wednesday. Senior goalier Alex Beauchemin made 11 saves and senior defender Tyler Rose tallied a game-leading four caused turnovers. Prior to Wednesday's game, Lasell had won 10 consecutive games, with nine taking place in the GNAC.

Leading the way for the Cadets were Jack Anzalone (2 goals, 2 assists), Jake Andrews-Pestana (3 goals), Callum Jones (1 goal, 2 assists) and Tyler Seidel (1 goal, 2 assists). Goalie Tommy Hopkins made a game-leading 21 saves and finished with a .808 save percentage.

The Cadets scored the first six goals, taking a 6-0 advantage on a goal by Anzalone with 10:18 remaining in the second quarter. Reyes found the back of the net twice in the second for the hosts, but Norwich led, 7-2, at halftime.

The Cadets posted four of the first five goals in the second half, extending their lead to 11-3 on a tally by Payden Masaracchia with 9:03 on the scoreboard in the fourth. DeRosa and Stone scored for the Lasers during the final quarter, but the visitors secured the seven-point victory.

Norwich led the shots' category, 43-41, and led the ground-balls statistic, 36-29. The Cadets won 14-of-20 faceoffs. Lasell went 20 of 25 on clears, while Norwich was 21 for 23. 

Bash Cunningham, Reyes, DeRosa, Hines, Nate Taggart and James Anderson tallied a combined 36 shots, with 22 on target. Thomas Muraski collected a game-high seven ground balls for Norwich.
