Men's Lacrosse: Anderson scores five to lead the Lasers to seventh straight victory

Paxton, Mass. – Senior James Anderson (Medway, Mass.) scored five goals and assisted on another to lead the Lasell University Lasers men's lacrosse team to a victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Anna Maria College, 11-3, Saturday afternoon at Caparso Field.

"We came out strong in the second half, we handled the adversity and made the necessary adjustments," said Lasell University Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Dieter Treusdell. "Anderson gave us the spark we needed in the second half offensively. The defense stood tall and continues to be stingy and consistent."

Lasell was the first on the board just over five minutes into the game as senior David Burke (Cohasset, Mass.) scored off an assist by freshman Ryan Stone (Granby, Conn.). Just under three minutes later the Amcats answered, as senior Nick Massaro (West Haven, Conn.) scored a solo effort. Anna Maria took the lead two minutes later as freshman Brennan Fields (Chicopee, Mass.) scored off the feed from senior Eric Glover (Baldwinsville, Mass.) to take a 2-1 lead after one quarter of action.

The Lasers tied the game up in the second quarter as Stone finished off the feed from junior Landon Reyes (Westfield, Mass.). Anna Maria jumped back in front three minutes later as Glover found the back of the net off the assist from senior Quinn Hannagan (South Windsor, Conn.). Just over a minute after falling behind Stone answered back for the Lasers tying the game up with his second of the afternoon. Anderson gave the Lasers the lead as he scored with the man up advantage giving the Lasers a 4-3 lead going into halftime.

The second half fully belonged to Lasell and the scoring got started with senior Jordan Hines (Essex Junction, Vt.). Anderson put in his second of the night to give the Lasers a three-goal lead on a solo effort and quickly followed up with his second goal on the man up advantage and third goal overall on the day. Sophomore Anthony DeRosa (Hudson, N.H.) put his first goal of the afternoon past the keeper off the Anderson feed. Anderson capped off the scoring in the fourth quarter as his fourth goal of the contest came off the assist from senior Bash Cunningham (Norwalk, Conn.) as the Lasers took a 9-3 lead into the final quarter.

Just over four minutes into the fourth quarter saw Anderson score his fifth of the afternoon as his solo effort made it eight unanswered goals by the Lasers. Stone made it two Lasell hat tricks on the day as he scored his third goal of the contest off the Hines feed to give the Lasers an 11-3 lead which would hold off until the final whistle.

Graduate student Griffin Moore (Worcester, Mass.) got the start in net for Anna Maria making 14 saves. Glover led the offense with a goal and an assist. Fields and Massaro both scored goals and Hannagan assisted on a goal for the Amcats.

Senior Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) got the win in net for the Lasers making 12 saves in 15 attempts. Anderson led the offense with five goals and an assist and collected 12 ground balls while Stone added three goals and an assist. Hines scored one and assisted on one while Burke and DeRosa each scored a goal. Cunningham and Reyes both assisted on a goal apiece.

The Lasers will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13, when they take on Saint Joseph's College Maine in a GNAC matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
