Men's Lacrosse: Lasers win defensive battle over Rivier for third straight GNAC victory

Nashua, N.H. – Junior Landon Reyes scored three goals to lead the Lasell University Lasers men's lacrosse team to a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Rivier University, 7-6, Saturday afternoon at Joanna Merrill Field.

"It was a great team win on the road," said Lasell University Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Dieter Treusdell. "I am proud of this team."

Rivier got the game going in the first scoring less than a minute into the game as junior Jeffery Potter (North Bennington, Vt.) scored off the feed from sophomore Michael Ference (Salem, N.H.). Lasell answered getting a goal senior David Burke to knot the game up at one. Senior James Anderson gave the Lasers the lead with four minutes to go in the quarter. After assisting on the first goal of the game, Ference put one in the back of the net to tie the game up at two going into the second.

After going a man, Lasell took back the lead after Reyes took the feed from senior Jordan Hines and put it past the keeper. Lasell scored a second unanswered with the same combination also being a man down as Reyes found the back of the net on an assist from Hines. The Raiders clawed one back before halftime as sophomore Coby Mercier (Boscawen, N.H.) to cut the Laser lead to 4-3 at half.

Potter opened the second half just like he opened the first half with a goal as he tied the game up at four. The Hines to Reyes connection continued for the third time as Reyes netted his hat trick on an assist from Hines giving the Lasers back the lead. Ference scored his second of the game right after Reyes did for Lasell to even the game up at five. The Lasers just beat the buzzer to take the back the lead as Burke scored his second of the game with two seconds left as Lasell took a 6-5 lead into the final quarter.

Just over a minute into the fourth quarter, with the Raiders up a man Ference scored his third of the game on an assist from sophomore Connor Eck (Franklin, Mass.). With time winding down in the fourth, Hines broke the deadlock off the feed from Anderson to give the Lasers the lead with just over three minutes remaining. The Lasers defense held strong through the final three minutes as they took the victory 7-6.

Sophomore Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, Maine) made 16 saves in the loss. Ference led the Raiders with three goals and Rivier got two goals from Potter. Mercier added a goal and Eck added an assist for the Raiders.

Senior Alex Beauchemin got the win for the Lasers making 10 saves on 16 shots. Reyes scored three goals and Burke added two. Hines scored a goal and added three assists and Anderson added one goal and one assist for Lasell.

The Lasers will be back in action on Wednesday, 30, when they take on Albertus Magnus College in a GNAC clash. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
