Men's Lacrosse: Lasers use three hat tricks to down undefeated Dean for second GNAC victory

Newton, Mass. – Three Lasell University Lasers men's lacrosse players scored hattricks in their Great Northeast Athletic Conferenc (GNAC) victory over Dean College, 15-8, Wednesday at Grellier Field.

The Lasers started the game out behind as the Bulldogs were the first to strike when sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.) scored on a solo effort. The Lasers answered back, following a Dean penalty when junior Nate Taggart found sophmore Anthony DeRosa for the equalizing goal. Junior Brad Aubin (Glastonbury, Conn.) gave Dean the lead back with three-minutes to go after getting a feed from fellow classmate Peyton Emrick (Somers, Conn.). The Lasers struck again with the man advantage, as junior Landon Reyes scored following a short feed from senior Jordan Hines. Dean the answer to the Lasell goal as sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) put it past the keeper with seven seconds remaining in the quarter giving Dean a 3-2 lead after one.

The teams continued to trade goals into the second as Lasell struck first getting a second goal from Reyes in the first half. After two man advantage goals by the Lasers in the first, the Bulldogs grabbed one of their own in the second, as freshman Jason Richard (Holden, Mass.) scored off an assist from Speirs to give Dean the lead back. Lasell answered back as Hines scored a goal after assisting on a goal in the first. Less than 10 seconds later the Bulldogs were back in front senior Kobe Welch-Porter (Leander, Texas) scored off a won faceoff off the feed from Greg Centeio (Fairhaven, Mass.). From there the goal trading stopped, as a minute later senior James Anderson grabbed his first goal of the game off the assist by senior David Burke. 30 seconds later Anderson found the next again as he wasted no time giving Lasell their first lead of the game. Freshman Ryan Stone added to the Lasers advantage as he scored his first of the game off the feed from senior Bash Cunningham to give the Lasers a 7-5 lead at half.

The Lasers struck again early in the third quarter, following a penalty on Dean that carried over DeRosa scored a man up giving the Lasers a three-goal lead. Hines kept it going for the Lasers as he scored giving Lasell a five to zero run from the end of the second quarter until early in the third. Alverez-Segee gave ended the five-goal run by the Lasers as his solo effort on the man advantage gave Dean some life. The Bulldogs could not keep Lasell off the scoreboard however, as Taggart put one home to restore the five-goal cushion. Lasell kept going getting two straight man up goals the first coming from Stone and the second from Reyes to give him his hattrick. Anderson quickly joined Reyes scoring his third goal 40 seconds after. Right before the clock expired in the third Stone felt as though the Lasers needed three hattricks as he scored his hattrick to give the Lasers a 14-6 lead after three.

Anderson struck again just after midway through the fourth quarter on a feed from Stone giving the Lasers a nine-goal lead. Dean battled back getting two goals in less than a minute, first from Centeio and followed by Alverez-Segee which gave the leading scorer for the Bulldogs a hattrick. The Laser defense was solid in the second half and carried them to a 15-8 victory over Dean.

Alverez-Sagee led the Bulldogs with three goals and added an assist. Speirs led Dean with two assists while scoring a goal as well. Welch-Porter, Centeio, Richard and Aubin all found the back of the net for the Bulldogs.

Senior Alex Beauchemin got the win for the Lasers making 11 saves in 19 opportunities. Anderson led the Lasers with four goals while Reyes added three and Stone scored three and assisted on two. Hines and DeRosa both found the net twice for Lasell while Hines assisted on two goals and DeRosa assisted on one. Taggart scored one and assisted one on the day and Burke assisted on a goal as well. Cunningham led the game with his three assists for the Lasers.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, March 26, when they travel to Rivier University for a GNAC clash. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
