NEWTON, Mass. - Senior midfielder Jordan Hines of the Lasell University men's lacrosse team compiled his second collegiate hat trick during a 12-9 non-conference setback to Emerson Thursday afternoon at Grellier Field.

Senior David Burke and sophomore Anthony DeRosa each finished with one goal and two assists for Lasell (0-5). Junior midfielder Nate Whitehead found the back of the net twice for the hosts, including his first goal in a Lasers' uniform. Hines, Burke, DeRosa and Whitehead have combined for 18 goals and nine assists this season.

"We have to stay hungry," said Lasell University Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Dieter Treusdell. "The adversity we are facing now is going to make us better. Emerson is a good team and well-coached."

Senior goalie Alex Beauchemin made 13 saves for the Lasers, while goalie Malcolm McGrath turned aside the same number of shots for the Lions (6-1). Birk Swan tallied three goals and three assists for Emerson, while Nicholas Fulgione (3 goals), Skyler Celotto (1 goal, 2 assists) and Hunter Gervais (2 goals, 1 assist) also played well.

A goal by Fulgione opened the scoring and gave Emerson a 1-0 advantage 2:07 into the first quarter. Junior Landon Reyes and DeRosa tallied back-to-back goals, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead. Emerson scored the final four goals of the opening period, going in front, 5-2, on a man-up goal by Fulgione with 45 seconds on the scoreboard.

The Lasers controlled the pace in the second quarter, finding the back of the net three times and keeping the Lions off the scoreboard for the entire period. Lasell held Emerson scoreless for a period of 20:26, spanning from the first to third quarter. A goal by Hines, assisted by Burke, with 4:40 left in the half evened the score at 5-5 going into intermission.

Lasell took a 6-5 lead 1:18 into the third quarter on an unassisted goal by Burke. Emerson regained control with five straight goals to end the third, as a goal by Fulgione extended the Lions' lead to 10-6 with 3:02 on the clock.

During the fourth, Whitehead scored twice and Hines netted a goal, but two fourth-quarter goals by Emerson gave the unit a three-goal victory.

Hines recorded a team-high eight shots and game-leading seven shots on net, while leading the Lasers in caused turnovers (3). Senior Bash Cunningham put five of his seven shots on target. For the visitors, Fulgione totaled a game-best 10 shots and Josh DeMattos tied a game-best seven ground balls and led all players in caused turnovers (5).

Emerson claimed a 42-34 advantage in shots and went 14 for 17 on clears. Lasell was successful on 18-of-21 clears.

The Lasers will compete against Eastern Connecticut State Wednesday at 1 p.m. on Grellier Field.
