Men's Lacrosse: Eight Lasers tally at least one point in 16-6 loss at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. - Senior attack James Anderson of the Lasell University men's lacrosse team found the back of the net twice, as eight Lasers recorded at least one point during a 16-6 setback at Roger Williams Wednesday.

Junior Nate Taggart tallied his second assist of the season for the Lasers (0-2) and freshman Ryan Stone buried the second goal of his freshman year. Landon Reyes (goal), Jordan Hines (goal), Brendan Johnson (goal), Bash Cunningham (assist) and David Burke (assist) also found their way onto the scoresheet. Senior goalie Alex Beauchemin tallied a game-high 13 saves for the visitors in 45 minutes of action.

"We have to take it on the chin and get better from the loss," said Lasell University Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Dieter Treusdell. "This is a resilient group, we will bounce back. It was a well-played game for Roger Williams."

Jared Grier led the way for the Hawks (2-1) with game-highs of four goals and five assists. Tim Mullane (3 goals, 1 assist) and Noah Ravas (3 goals) also played strong games. Goalie Duncan Gillis earned the win in net, turning away five shots in the opening 45 minutes.

The Hawks raced out to a 5-0 lead with 8:30 left in the second quarter, as Grier and Ravas each scored two goals during the surge. Anderson responded with back-to-back goals for the Lasers, trimming the deficit to 5-2 with 6:22 remaining in the second. Roger Williams took a 6-2 lead into halftime on a goal by Jack Kester.

The Hawks scored the first three goals of the second half, building a 9-2 cushion on a goal by Kester with 5:55 remaining in the third quarter. Hines pulled Lasell to within six at 10-4 on a goal, assisted by Taggart, with 1:39 on the clock in the third. Roger Williams scored six of the final eight goals to secure the victory.

Anderson posted team-bests of seven shots and four shots on net. Burke, Reyes and Taggart each registered five shots, combining for eight shots on net. Lasell won the ground-balls category, 37-31. Beauchemin finished with a game-high seven ground balls, while Burke collected six.

Roger Williams led the shots category, 44-33, while the Lasers won 16 of 26 faceoffs. Grier compiled game-highs of 13 shots and nine on target for the hosts.

The Lasers will compete against Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) Saturday at 2 p.m. on Grellier Field.
