Two Lasell Men’s Lacrosse players receive GNAC Weekly Honors

NEWTON, Mass. – Two standouts on the Lasell College men's lacrosse team were honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Monday for their performances in a pair of victories last week.

Sophomore Ryan Janovic (East  Lyme, Conn.) was named GNAC Men's Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week, and freshman Andrew Fidalgo (Wilbraham,  Mass.) was selected GNAC Rookie of the Week. They were key players as Lasell opened defense of its 2017 GNAC championship with wins in its first two conference match-ups.

A 5-8 goalie, Janovic posted a 2-0 record with a 4.50 goals against average and a .727 save percentage for a total of 24 saves. He made 15 saves on 20 shots Wednesday in a victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine), and registered nine saves on 13 shots in Saturday's win at Anna Maria.

Janovic ranks eighth in the GNAC for the season with a 12.54 goals against average and a .489 save percentage.

A 5-5 attackman, Fidalgo posted a pair of four-point games in the 2-0 week, totaling five goals and three assists. He tallied three goals and an assist Wednesday in a victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine), and he added two goals and two assists in Saturday's win at Anna Maria. He also picked up six ground balls against the AMCATS.

Fidalgo has nine goals and nine assists in seven games this spring, ranking third on the team in assists and points and fifth in goals.

The Lasers (2-5, 2-0) will be back in action with two GNAC games this week -- Wednesday, April 4, at Johnson & Wales University at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, Apr. 7, hosting Mount Ida College at 2:30 p.m.
