Lasell Men’s Lacrosse upends Anna Maria in GNAC contest

PAXTON, Mass. – Junior Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman Andrew Fidalgo (Wilbraham, Mass.) combined for five goals and five assists Saturday evening as the Lasell College men's lacrosse team picked up its second straight victory with a 10-4 triumph over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Amcat Field.

Madden led the Lasers with three goals and three assists, while Fidalgo contributed a second-straight four-point performance with two goals and two assists. Senior Alex McCormack-Kuhman (Wells, Maine) added a pair of goals and sophomore Ben Werner (Boxford, Mass.) commanded the face-off x, going 12-for-17 with nine ground balls in the victory.

Lasell improves to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC while Anna Maria falls to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Lasers led 3-0 after one quarter. Senior Greg Klaum (Floral Park, N.Y.) and junior Austin Shindoll (Denver, Colo.) sandwiched one goal apiece around Fidalgo's first of two on the afternoon. Anna Maria's Cameron Perry (Coventry, R.I.) put the Amcats on the board with 11:54 remaining in the second quarter, but McCormack-Kuhman answered less than 30 seconds later for the Lasers for a 4-1 lead. Madden and Fidalgo each added a goal as the visitors closed out the first half with a 6-1 lead.

Lasell pulled ahead 8-2 after three quarters on goals by Madden and McCormack-Kuhman, and opened the fourth with goals by Madden and senior Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) to extend the margin to 10-2. Anna Maria added two goals to close out the final stanza, but it would not be enough to mount a comeback.

Despite the loss, Paul Schwarz (Staten Island. N.Y.) tied a career-high with 34 saves for Anna Maria, his most since his collegiate debut versus Curry on February 27, 2016. Sophomore Ryan Janovic (East Lyme, Conn.) added nine saves in victory for the Lasers

Lasell has a quick turnaround Monday with a non-conference make-up game against Plymouth State at 4:00 p.m. Anna Maria travels to conference foe Albertus Magnus on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
