Springfield Remains Perfect in Pilgrim taking 11-3 Victory from Lasell

Newton, Mass.- The Pride of Springfield College remains undefeated in the Pilgrim Lacrosse League after an 11-3 victory today over the Lasell College Lasers, on Grellier Field.  The Pride are 5-4 overall with a 3-0 Pilgrim record, and the Lasers finish the day with 1-2 league mark, 3-7 overall.

Over thirteen minutes elapsed before the first goal was scored in the opening quarter.  Springfield's Ryan Thibodeau (Somers, Conn.) put the Pride on the board with an unassisted tally with only 1:39 remaining in the period.  Lasell did not waste time responding as Brian Yepez (Hillsborough, NJ) answered just 22 seconds later to tie the game ending the first quarter.

Springfield ran away with five unreturned goals in the second frame push for a 6-1 gap by halftime.  Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) took a dish from Chris Jez (Sommers, Conn.) to put the Pride ahead 49 seconds into the stanza.  Pat Cavanaugh (Wayland, Mass.) attacked next at 13:33, followed by Kyle Louer (Islip, NY) whose catch-and-shoot mark proved to be the game winner.

Jake Jones (Amherst, Mass.) and Joe Macchi (Mahopac, NY) each notched points before the break to give Springfield a five goal advantage heading into intermission.

Lasell's Dave Buhloes (Billerica, Mass.) fired one in past Springfield goalkeeper Tom Albano (Ridgewood, NJ) at 7:45 in the third to break the Pride's run.  Buhloes then assisted on Chris Bulkley's (Groton, Conn.) man-up tally just one minute later.

The Pride scored four more goals before the final buzzer, but Albano kept the Lasers from scoring for the remainder of the contest, making eight saves in the victory.  Lasell's goalie Mike Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.) made eleven saves in the defeat.

Beebe led for the visitors with four points in the matchup while Joe Heney (Plainview, NY) provided an additional two goals and an assist.  Yepez and Buhloes each finished with two points for the home team, while Adam Foss (Billerica, Mass.) controlled the face-off 10 of 16 times and added 10 ground balls.

Lasell hits the road on Saturday, April 11th for a 1:00 p.m. contest at Norwich University.  Springfield faces Mass. Maritime at home on the same day at noon.
