Maggio & Stambler Selected to NEILA East-West Senior All-Star Game

Newton, MA-  Lasell College senior men's lacrosse players Mike Maggio, of Winchester, Mass., and Matthew Stambler, of Bay Shore, NY, were selected to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assosociation's East-West Senior All-Star game.  The NEILA East-West game honors the top senior men's lacrosse players in New England from each of the three divisions. Only 37 total athletes are selected by a committee, made up primarily of area head coaches, to participate in the showcase.

Maggio is a three year Pilgrim League All-Conference recipient, having earned a spot as a sophomore on the second team, and on the first team each year since then. In 2009, Maggio was recognized by the league as a top midfielder after notching 44 points, on 27 goals and 17 assists, while also being ranked 4th in assists, 8th in points, and 9th in goals per game in the Pilgrim League.

After four years with the Lasers, Maggio finished his playing this year with 95 goals, 40 assists, and 135 total points, placing him 6th all-time in goals, 8th all-time in assists, and 7th all-time in total points.  Maggio also currently holds the Lasers all-time record for most career game-winning goals.

Stambler is also a four year letter-winner for the Lasers and a two time All-Conference honoree by the Pilgrim League.  One of the best defenders in the league, Stambler was chosen to the Pilgrim First Team in 2008 and 2009.

This season, Stambler played in nine contests, collecting 36 groundballs, averaging 4.0 per game.  Stambler finished his career with 191 groundballs, setting the all-time record for most career groundballs at Lasell College.  In addition, he also holds the records for most caused turnovers in a game and in a career.

This is the fourth year in a row that the Lasers' men's lacrosse team has had at least one athlete chosen to compete in this prestigious contest.  In 2006, Louis Lucchetti and Kyle Minaker were honored, followed by AL Zayac in 2007, and Mark DeMieri, in 2008.  This year's NEILA East-West game will be held at Tufts University on Sunday, May 31st, at 1:00 p.m.
