Men's Basketball: Aaron Galletta picks up 200th career win in 65-55 victory over Regis

WESTON, Mass. - Graduate students Jonathan Friberg and Kevin Vanderhorst recorded a combined 30 points and 32 rebounds for the Lasell University men's basketball team Tuesday evening, as Head Coach Aaron Galletta earned his 200th collegiate win in a 65-55 victory at Great Northeast Athletic Conference-rival Regis.

"We found a way to win on the road tonight," said Galletta. "Regis made it really tough for us all night. Jonathan Friberg gave us a huge boost on both ends of the floor in the second half and that made the difference."

Friberg finished with game-highs of 19 points and 17 rebounds, including eight offensive boards. The rebounding total was a career-high. He scored 15 second-half points, as the Lasers (14-9, 11-6 GNAC) held a 40-25 advantage in points during the final 20 minutes. Vanderhorst also compiled a double-double, featuring 11 points and 15 rebounds. Friberg shot 9 of 13 from the field and Vanderhorst was an efficient 3 for 6.

Marc Trinidad led the way for the Pride (10-12, 7-9 GNAC) with 16 points and 11 boards. Jalil Wilkerson tallied 14 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists for Regis.

A layup by Friberg ended an 8-0 run for the Lasers and gave the visitors an 8-4 advantage 4:29 into regulation. The Pride built a 26-19 lead on a 3-pointer by Justin Evelyn with two minutes left in the first half, as Regis took a 30-25 cushion into intermission. Junior guard Demerrick Warren scored six first-half points, shooting 2 for 3 from 3-point range, while Friberg pulled down 11 rebounds.

Lasell regained the lead at 39-37 with 11:54 remaining in the second half on a three-ball by freshman guard Conan McCusker. An old-fashioned 3-point play by Friberg put the visitors in front, 52-46, with 6:17 showing on the clock. Vanderhorst and McCusker followed with a jumper and 3-pointer, respectively, which ended an 8-0 run and extended Lasell's lead to 57-46 with 4:20 left. The Lasers resfused to allow the Pride to get closer than eight the rest of the way.

Lasell's defense limited Regis to 27.9% shooting from the field (19 of 68) and 22.2% from beyond the 3-point line (4 for 18). The Lasers led points in the paint, 32-18, second-chance points, 16-5, rebounds, 49-43, and bench points, 18-12.

The Lasers will compete in their regular-season finale Saturday at Saint Joseph's College of Maine with a 3 p.m. tipoff.
