NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior guard EJ Day recorded a game-high 18 points for the Lasell University men's basketball team Tuesday evening, as nine Lasers scored during a 72-62 loss in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Albertus Magnus.

Day and senior guard Kevin Nunez (12 points, 6 rebounds) shot a combined 9 of 10 from the free-throw line for the Lasers (11-7, 8-4 GNAC). Day also recorded four assists and three steals, both tied for the most in the game. Graduate student Kevin Vanderhorst tallied six points and six rebounds and is one point shy of 1,000 collegiate points.

Senior forward Liam Jacobs gave Lasell 26 excellent minutes off the bench, finishing with season-highs of nine points and nine rebounds. The nine rebounds were a game-high and he also shot 4 of 8 from the field and 1 for 2 on 3-pointers.

Terry Dawkins led the way for the Falcons (10-4, 8-1 GNAC), as he compiled team-bests of 17 points and eight rebounds. Davon Warner and Tyreek Perkins scored 15 and 12, respectively, for Albertus.

A layup by sophomore forward Tate Niemela gave the visitors an 8-5 lead 5:01 into the first half. The hosts responded with a 12-0 surge, taking a 17-8 advantage on a jumper by Rob Tindley with 9:51 on the clock.

Over the next 2:46, Lasell embarked on a 10-2 run. Day came up with a steal, and then assisted on a layup by Jacobs, trimming the Falcons' lead to 19-18 with 7:05 remaining. The Lasers scored the final six points of the half, including three foul shots by Nunez, and trailed, 35-33, at halftime.

The Falcons built a double-digit lead in the second half, as seven consecutive points gave the unit a 62-48 cushion with 6:58 remaining. An old-fashioned 3-point play by Vanderhorst trimmed the deficit down to 64-56 with 5:04 left.

Albertus did not allow Lasell to get closer than eight the rest of the way. Dawkins scored six points for the Falcons in the final five minutes to secure the win.

Lasell led points off turnovers, 17-12, and shot 85.0% from the free-throw line (17 of 20). Albertus shot 48.3% from the field (29 for 60).

The Lasers will take on GNAC-rival Elms Thursday at 8 p.m. in Chicopee, Massachusetts.
