MBK: Lasers overwhelmed by Judges; snap four game win streak

Waltham, Mass – The Lasell University men's basketball team fell in a non-conference matchup with the Brandeis University Judges, 88-44, Tuesday at Auerbach Arena.

Senior EJ Day (Norwalk, Conn.) was the only Laser in double figures scoring 17 points on 6-14 shooting and he added five steals as well.

Freshman Toby Harris (Durham, N.C.) was the leading scorer for the Judges with 20 points on 6-8 shooting. Graduate student Collin Sawyer (New London, Conn.) scored 16 points and senior Nolan Hagerty (Yarmouth, Maine) scored 10 points and added eight rebounds.

The Judges started out on fire making their four of their first five shots, three of which were from behind the arc to start the game on an 11-0 run. The Lasers followed it up with a 7-0 run of their own to cut the lead to four early in the first half. The Judges though had another run in them midway through the half, as they scored 10 unanswered to pull out to a 19-point lead with 6:12 remaining. Lasell got the Brandeis lead down to as low as 14 with 3:41 to go, but the Judges responded pushing the lead to 20 going into the half on a dunk by Hagerty.

The Judges dominance continued in the second half, scoring 17 of the first 20 points to push the lead to 36 with 14:09 left in the game. Lasell answered back right away scoring the next five points on two Day free throws and a Day three. The teams traded baskets for a few minutes before Brandeis got on another run scoring 15 unanswered all on three pointers and three free throws after Harris got fouled on a three. Lasell never was able to get any traction back into the game and the Judges cruised from there to win 88-44.

Brandeis shot the ball well, shooting 57.4 percent from the field (31-54) and 46.7 percent from three (14-30). They held the Lasers in check as Lasell only shot 30.6 percent from the field (15-49).

Lasell will be back in action on Saturday, December 11, when they play host to conference foe Dean College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
