MBK: Nunez scores 1,000th career point in victory over Lions

Norton, Mass. – Senior Kevin Nunez (Dorchester, Mass.) led the way for the Lasell University men's basketball team with 24 points including his 1,000th career point in their win Tuesday at Emerson Gymnasium.

Four out of the five Laser starters scored in double figures with Nunez leading the way with 24 points and adding seven rebounds. Senior EJ Day (Norwalk, Conn.) scored 17 points on an efficient 7-11 from the field. Graduate student Jonathan Friberg (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored 12 points and added nine rebounds and freshman Karim Belhouchet (Newton, Mass.) scored 10 points.

Junior Alex Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) was the only Lion in double figures with 26 points and collected 10 rebounds for the double double.

Lasell jumped out to an early lead going on an 18 to 7 run during the opening six minutes. The Lions clawed their way back into the game during the following eight minutes getting the Lasers lead down to two on a layup by junior Patrick Oed (The Woodlands, Texas). From that point until the end of the half, Lasell scored 14 of the last 20 points to hold a 12-point advantage going to half.

Lasell took their hot end of the half and continued it in the second, making four of the first five shots pushing the lead to 19. With 11 minutes left in the game, the Lasers lead got as high as 24 following a free throw by graduate student Kevin Vanderhorst (Lawrence, Mass.). From that point Wheaton was able to match points with Lasell. The Lions outscored the Lasers by six the rest of the way but that was not enough to make a big enough dent in Lasell's lead.

Lasell will be back in action for their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference when they travel to Rivier University on Saturday, December 04. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
