MBK: Lasers fall just short against Babson

Babson Park, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers men's basketball team gave the Babson College Beavers all they could handle, but fell just short, Wednesday at Staake Gymnasium.

Senior Kevin Nunez (Dorchester, Mass.) kept his hot shooting going against the Beavers from the past two years scoring 28 on 12-16 from the field and added eight rebounds. This was the third time in four games against Babson Nunez has scored more than 20.

Senior EJ Day (Norwalk, Conn.) added 13 points while pulling down nine rebounds, and graduate student Kevin Vanderhorst (Lawrence, Mass.) scored 15 and added seven rebounds.

The Laser starters accounted for 62 of the 67 points they scored on the night.

Senior Colin Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) led the Beavers in scoring with 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the double-double. Freshman Rob Couch (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the only other Beaver in double digits with 11 points. Freshman Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) scored nine points and pulled down seven rebounds.

There was little to separate the two teams in the first half. The biggest lead in the first half was seven by the Beavers with nine and a half minutes to go in the half. That lead did not last long as the Lasers pulled even three minutes later. Both teams had the lead during the final six minutes before the Beavers pulled out a two-point lead when the clock hit zero.

The Lasers came out of the gates hot in the second half scoring 10 of the first 13 points to pull out a five-point lead after four minutes. The Beavers got the game back to one before a 6-0 Lasers run the next two minutes. Babson clawed their way back getting the game back to even with 6:30 remaining in the game. Neither team had a lead bigger than three from that point on as the Beavers did just enough to squeak out the victory.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, November 13, when they travel to Union College for a non-conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
