Omanovic, Powell, Blair Earn GNAC All-Conference Honors

NEWTON, Mass. (2/27/17) -- Seniors Armin Omanovic (Wilkesboro, N.C.) and John Powell (Ashland, Mass.) and sophomore Tim Blair (Newington, Conn.) of the Lasell College men's basketball team earned All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason honors, the league office announced on Monday.

Lasell joins GNAC champion Albertus Magnus and Johnson & Wales as the only schools with three All-Conference honorees as Omanovic and Powell were named to the All-GNAC First Team and Blair concludes his first season in a Lasers uniform as a Third Team selection.

Despite missing the final four games of the season, Omanovic still led the GNAC and all Division III players in New England with 28 points per game, ahead of Albertus Magnus junior Jaqhawn Walters, the league's Player of the Year. That number rose to 29.6 during conference play as he scored at least 34 points in his final three games, including two straight 37-point efforts against Suffolk and Emmanuel.

A three-time GNAC player of the Week this season, Omanovic became the 12th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark on Jan. 21 against conference rival St. Joseph's College, doing so in less than two full seasons. In addition to a point total that also ranked second nationally, Omanovic averaged 4.8 rebounds, four assists and one steal per contest.

Powell finished seventh in the league in scoring with 16.9 points per game in his first and only season at Lasell. The transfer from nearby Brandeis University played his best down the stretch, canning 15 or more points in his final nine games, including a season-high 32 against Norwich on Feb. 18. Powell was one of only two GNAC players with more than one block per game, recording a league-high 57, as well as 9.1 rebounds per game.

Blair averaged 13.2 points and was one of just six GNAC players to post 2.5 three-pointers per contest, ranking 12th in the league and third on the Lasers in scoring overall. The two-time GNAC Rookie of the Week scored 20 or more points in three of the season's last five games and a career-high 31 in a Jan. 10 win over rival Mount Ida.

Additionally, junior Derek McMahon was Lasell's representative on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. McMahon averaged 6.6 points per game, narrowly missing his season-high with 14 on four three-pointers in the Feb. 25 title game against Albertus.
