Newton, Mass. (1/22/15) – Behind 17 points from sophomore forward Jeff Lunn (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Dizel Wright (Springfield, Mass.), the Keene State Owls defeated the Lasell College Lasers 93-69 in non-conference men's basketball action on Thursday evening inside the Lasell College Athletic Center Gymnasium.
 

Lasell was led by sophomore forward Yordan Villalon (Miami, Fla.) who notched his first double-double of the season with a team-high 14 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and a solo block. Villalon also dropped 12 points from the charity stripe. Junior guard Anthony Simmons (Stamford, Conn.) chipped in with 13 points and a pair of steals, while senior guard Brock Walters (Jacksonville, Fla.) added 12 points while junior forward Logan Liberty (Duxbury, Vt.).

 

Wright went 7-for-7 from the field and added five boards, six assists and four steals for the Owls. Junior guard Nick Gagliolo (Peabody, Mass.) netted 10 points and pulled down a rebound, while classmate Nate Stitchell (Coventry, R.I.) pitched in with nine points and three assists. Junior center Nate Howard (Cheshire, Conn.) also pulled down eight caroms.

 

The visitors jumped out to a 28-7 lead in the first 7:42 of the first stanza, but the Lasers registered a 15-6 run over the next four minutes to pull within 12 points. Villalon shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line over the stretch, while freshman guard Scott Arsenault (Walpole, Mass.) added a three-pointer and a jumper, while Liberty sank a pair of free-throws during the spurt. The Owls recovered to end the opening half, 57-35. This is as close as the Lasers would get, as the Owls maintained a double-digit margin over the entire second half to close out the hosts, 93-67.

 

Lasell shot 30.5-percent (18-for-59) from the field, 17.6-percent (3-for-17) from deep range and 84.8-percent (28-for-33) from the charity stripe. Keene State shot 54.7-percent (35-for-64) from the field, 40.0-percent (6-for-15) from three-point territory and 85.0-percent (17-for-20).

 

Lasell (4-11) returns to the court on Saturday when the Lasers travel to Suffolk University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup with the Rams at 1:00 p.m., while Keene State (13-3) continues on Saturday when the Owls travel to UMass-Boston for a Little East Conference contest with the Beacons at 3:00 p.m.
