Men's Hoops Gets ECAC 5th Seed

NEWTON, Mass. (3/3/14) - The Lasell College men's basketball team received a bid to the ECAC New England tournament, getting seeded fifth, the Lasers will travel to Salve Regina to take on the fourth seeded Seahawks. The two teams will meet in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday March 5th at 7:00 p.m. at Salve Regina.

Salve Regina, out of the Commonwealth Coast Conference finished their season with a 17-10 record, faling to Nichols COllege in the CCC semifinals. The Seahawks are led by a trio of double figure scorers, Barrett Hanlon at 19.0 ppg, Patrick Dinneen at 16.1 ppg and Jeff Bielfeld at 13.4 ppg. 

The Seahawks do a good job attacking the basket offensively, averaging nearly 4.3 free throw attempts per game more than their opponents while also outrebounding their competition by 4.7 per outing. Salve Regina lost two out of three to Nichols College this year, as Lasell dropped their season opener to the Bison as well. Salve Regina opened the season taking on Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Johnson and Wales and claiming a 73-68 victory. The Lasers dropped a pair of games against JWU during their season, however Lasell knocked off Rhode Island College in overtime while Salve dropped an 80-67 decision to RIC.

Nichols College is the top-seed in the tournament followed by #2 Johnson and Wales University, #3 Castleton State along with #6 Endicott, #7Elms, and #8 Plymouth State.
