Men's Hoops Drops Opener to Nichols

NEWTON, Mass. (11/15/13) - The Lasell College Lasers dropped their home and season opener to Nichols College in a 91-83 thriller. This was the first game of the season for each team, and it ended as a high scoring affair. Lasell is 0-1 on the season, while the Bison opened their campaign 1-0.


Senior Brandon Ganesh (West Palm Beach, Fla.) led the way for Lasell offensively with 31 points while senior Angel Ortiz (East Lyme, Conn.) chipped in another 15 markers. Sophomore Clyde Niba (Atlanta, Ga.) led the team with 11 rebounds while adding 9 points.

Nichols was led by senior captain Ryan Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.), who paced all scorers on the night with 37 points.  Sam Horning (Falmouth, Maine) added 17 points and Matt Langadas (Sebago, Maine) finished with 15 points for the Bison. Sheehan and Joe Gallant (Salem, N.H.) added eight rebounds while Horning chipped in a team-high five assists. 

Nichols came out flying going up 20-13 within the first eight minutes, but the Lasers were able to get the offense going to go into the half tied at 44-44. The Bison opened the second half scoring seven straight points and leaving Lasell playing from behind throughout. Lasell had the margin as close as six points on multiple occasions but a jumper by Sam Horning followed by back-to-back three pointers by Sheehan and Irving Eggleston (East Lyme, Conn.) pushed the margin to 14 with eight minutes remaining and the Lasers were unable to recover. 

Lasell is back in action with a home game on Tuesday, Nov. 19th against Babson while Nichols gets their home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 20th against Eastern Connecticut State.
