Lasers Blaze by Rams, 92-64

Newton, MA-  The Lasell College Lasers blazed past the Suffolk University Rams Monday night with a twenty-eight point victory, 92-64, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball play.

Suffolk scored the first point of the game after Allan Ray (Lynn, MA) was sent to the line and hit the second half of two freebies, getting the Rams on the board.  In the following possession, Lasell's Charles Horton (Detroit, MI) kicked out a pass to sophomore forward Dominik Orlow (Slupsk, Poland) as he trailed down the court on a fast break to convert a three-pointer, putting Lasell ahead.

The Lasers would proceed to go on a 7-1 run over the next two minutes before a trey by Mike Fleming (Exeter, NH) brought the Rams back within four points of Lasell.  That basket would turn out to be the Rams last for over six minutes, during which time Lasell inflated their lead to a comfortable 23 points. The visitors next bucket came just before the ten minute mark when Colin Halpin (Melrose, MA) hit a turn-around jumper in the paint, making the score 28-7.

Lasell maintained a twenty-plus point margin for the rest of the half. A Javon Williams (Mattapan, MA) lay-up off a Horton steal in the back court during the final minute gave the Lasers a 49-28 halftime lead.

The Rams shot just 30% to the Lasers' 55% in the half.  Lasell also had a significant rebounding edge of 26-14 by the break.

A successful Williams put-back opened the second half.  The Lasers remained hot, shooting 44% in the period as they continued to advance their lead.  Suffolk was unable to close the gap to within reach, though Mickey McEntee (South Kingston, RI) put in a solid 13 point, eight rebound effort in the second half.

Matt Pepdjonivic (Quincy, MA) and Mario Massimino (East Haven, CT) each knocked out ten points for the visitors, with Pepdjonovic also contributing eight boards in the defeat.

Five Lasers hit double-figures in the scoring column.  Orlow had an outstanding game, dropping in 17 points and picking up seven rebounds. Williams put up fine numbers across the board with 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and a steal.  Horton and Adam Topel (Boca Raton, FL) each finished with 11 points and three assists and Lance Theard (New Orleans, LA) tallied ten total points.

Suffolk drops their overall record to 5-14 this season, and 1-11 in the GNAC.   Lasell improves their overall slate to 7-12, and 5-7 in the league.

The Lasers will travel to Norwich University on Thursday, February 4th for their next contest.  The GNAC matchup is slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
