Williams Honored by the ECAC as a 2009-10 Division III New England Men’s Basketball All-Star

CAPE COD, MA- The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced the 2009-2010 Division III New England Men's Basketball All-Stars on Wednesday, March 17th, honoring the 16 top men’s basketball players from the region. Lasell College's sophomore forward Javon Williams (Mattapan, MA) was amongst those selected by the ECAC as a third team recipient.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference is the nation’s largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with approximately 300 member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. The ECAC publicizes the achievements of over 750 student-athletes annually through the postseason all-stars. In men's and women’s basketball, the ECAC names one Division I all-star team, one Division II all-star team, and four regional Division III all-star teams (New England, Upstate, Metro, and South).

Williams’ ECAC honor can be tacked onto an outstanding year of accomplishments for the sophomore student-athlete.  He was also selected to the First Team All-Conference in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as well as the GNAC 2010 All-Tournament team.  Williams is ranked in the top ten in nine statistical categories in the GNAC, as well as listed in four NCAA Division III national rankings.  He led the Lasers in points, rebounds, field goal percentage, steals, and blocks this season, and finished third on the team in assists.  He has scored in double-figures in 29 consecutive contests, dating back to the 2008-2009 season, and produced 12 double-doubles this season.

In just two seasons with the Lasers, Williams has amassed a career total of 698 points, 329 rebounds, 75 steals, 57 assists, and career field goal percentage of 54.3%.  He is currently 11th in all-time scoring and 9th in all-time rebounding at Lasell, and holds the school record for total steals in a season, making 54 steals in the 2009-2010 season.

Williams was one of four GNAC players to be awarded with the ECAC All-Star honor this season.  The Player of the Year award was given to Blake Schultz of Williams College and the Rookie of the Year honoree is Jason Chevrefils of Colby-Sawyer College.
