Manchester, NH-The Manchester Millrats have signed Lasell alum and power forward 6'10 Jose Guitian (Miami, FL). Guitian became Lasell College's all-time leading scorer and rebounder during his senior season topping the 1500 point mark and the 1000 rebound mark.
Guitian, a 2009 Lasell
College graduate, met Millrats co-owner Steve Yankopoulos
on the Lasell campus. During his senior
year, Guitian averaged 18.6 points, 11.7
rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.4 blocks per game. He led the
Lasers to a first place Great Northeast Athletic Conference
finish and to the semi-finals of the ECAC
Tournament. Guitian, who was also named to
the D-3 Hoops All American Honorable Mention Team, was also
the GNAC Player of the Year in 2009.
Since graduation Guitian has played with the
Grises de Humacao, a team in Puerto Rico that competes with teams
in the Premier Basketball League (PBL). The PBL is a
professional developmental league.
“It’s great for him,” said
Lasell Head Coach Aaron Galletta. “They [the
Millrats] contacted me and asked me for some film. Maybe he can get
to another level after that.”
In a recent interview, Galletta said Guitian was
hoping to play with a team locally.
“This is really local,” Galletta added. Galletta
added that the Millrats co-owner – also a Lasell alum –
had been following Guitian on his own.
According to the Millrats, during the summer while playing for the
Grises de Humacao, Guitian posted averages of
7.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game as a rookie.
"Jose gives us more height and length and interior depth which we
were needing," said Millrats Head Coach Heath Teixeira in a
release. "He competes and gets after it and shoots it very well
also."
