Lasell College mens basketball senior captain, Jose Guitian, has been named a D3Hoops.com All-American Honorable Mention. The 610 forward from Miami, Florida has earned an abundance of accolades this season, which now has culminated with the incredible honor of being recognized nationally, and becoming the first student-athlete at Lasell College to earn the All-American recognition.
Jose Guitian (Miami, FL), Lasell men's basketball's senior forward and captain has been selected to the D3Hoops.com All-Region 1st team for the Northeast Region. Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.
Newton, Mass.- Becker College claimed a 85-82 victory in the ECAC New England Tournament semi-finals, upsetting the no. 1 seeded Lasers of Lasell College. After 15 lead changes and thirteen ties, the Hawks earned the right to host the championship finals on their home court. The Lasers completed their 2008-2009 season with a 19-10 overall record.
In the first round of the ECAC DIII New England mens basketball tournament the Lasers of Lasell College pulled out an 89-84 win over the Seahawks of Salve Regina. The eight seeded Seahawks ended their 2008-2009 season with a 14-14 record, while the no. 1 Lasers (19-9) move onto the semi-finals on Saturday against no. 4 Becker College.
After finishing 1st in the GNAC in the regular-season with an 18-9 record, the Lasell Lasers were selected as the number one seed in the 2009 ECAC Division III New England Men's Basketball Championship. The tournament is an eight-team field with quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship rounds.
Lasell senior forward Jose Guitian (Miami, FL) was selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches.Fellow senior and co-captain Brad Caravoulias (Dracut, Mass.) was awarded a spot on the All-Conference second team.
Three Lasers were selected to receive GNAC weekly awards this week. Once again, Javon Williams (Mattapan, Mass.) was honored as Rookie of the Week for mens basketball, while Dave Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.) was chosen as Player of the Week in Mens Volleyball, and Zack Smith (Agawam, Mass.) was mens volleyball Rookie of the Week. Both Rogers and Smith are being honored for the first time by the GNAC this season.
Newton, MA- It was a roller coaster of a game in the GNAC semi-final contest between #1 seeded Lasell College and #4 Emmanuel. After Emmanuel took a nineteen point lead in the first half, the Lasers began a thrilling come-from-behind chase to force the game into double-overtime, where the Saints took an incredible 94-91 win and will move onto the GNAC Tournament Championship game.

Guitian, a first-team all-conference selection last year, leads the league in scoring (24.1), rebounds (13.5), and blocked shots (2.3)), and also ranks in the GNAC for field goal percentage (.511), assists (2.8), and 3 point field goals made (1.7). Guitian is also making a mark nationally where he is ranked second for rebounding, seventh in scoring, and 18th in blocked shots per game. He has surpassed the 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds this season. He was recently named one of ten finalists for the prestigious Jostens Trophy and this season has earned GNAC Player of the Week eight times, ECAC Player of the week four times, and D3hoops.com Team of the Week three times.
Newton, MA- Lasells Jose Guitian has been selected as a top 10 finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy, a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem, Va., to honor the most outstanding mens and womens Division III basketball players of the year. The award recognizes those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete, and is based on three components: basketball ability, academic prowess, and community service.
Newton, MA- The top seeded Lasers were victorious in the quarter finals of the GNAC Mens Basketball Championship Tournament, defeating #8 Norwich University, 67-59. Lasells Jose Guitian (Miami, FL) finished the game with an amazing triple-double, recording 25 points, pulling down 15 boards, and blocking an unprecedented 10 Cadet shots. Norwich finishes the 2008-2009 season with a 7-19 record, while the Lasers move on to the GNAC semi-finals at the 18-8 mark.
The Lasell mens basketball team sealed the Great Northeast Athletic Conference regular season title with their home win over Emerson College on Tuesday, February 17th, in a 79-68 victory. As a result of that, the Lasers are now set to host the GNAC Championship Tournament as the highest seed, beginning Tuesday, February 24th.
STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's (18-7, 12-6 GNAC) defeated the GNAC top seed Lasell College (17-8, 14-4)81-74 on Saturday afternoon. The Monks balanced attack was to much for the Lasers to handle as Tyler Kelley paced St. Joes with 12 points, shooting 5 for 8 and Ray Eatmon pitched in 10 to go along with a game high 13 rebounds. Lasers guard Junior Sainval (Miami, FL) made five three-pointers and netted a game-high 19 points in the defeat.
The Lasell College mens basketball team clinched the Great Northeast Athletic Conference regular season title and first place seed in the GNAC tournament tonight with a victory over second place Emerson College, 79-68. Lasell sealed the league title with a 14-3 GNAC record, and a 17-7 overall record, having one regular season game left. Emerson ended the night at a 12-5 conference mark and a 16-8 overall record.

Jose Guitians (Miami, FL) 37 points carried the Lasers to a 98-71 win over Suffolk University in Newton, Massachusetts this afternoon. Newton, MA- After building a twenty point second half lead over Mount Ida College on Tuesday, the ever persistent Mustangs went on two late runs to close back in on the Lasell College mens basketball team, and found themselves tied, 67-67, with 3:36 on the clock. The Lasers, however, dug deep to pull out a 73-70 win, marking their second GNAC victory over the Mustangs this season. Mount Ida falls to 9-11 overall, and 3-10 in the GNAC, while the Lasers hold a 15-7 overall and 12-3 conference mark with three regular season games to go.

Jose Guitian (Miami, FL) became the first Laser to record 1,000 rebounds in Lasell College basketball history. The senior, captain grabbed his record setting rebound at home on Monday night, February 2nd, in a 61-39 win over Albertus Magnus College.

Guitian has become the All-Time leading scorer in Lasell College mens basketball history after breaking the previous record of 1,584 career points, in a 22 point, 13 rebound performance against Rivier College. Guitians current career total stands at 1,625 and climbing.
Boston, MA- Brian Small (Stoughton, Mass.) led the Rams of Suffolk University past Lasell College with 38 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists in GNAC mens basketball, on Saturday. The Rams upset Lasell with a 112-107 win at Suffolks Regan Gymnasium.
Newton, Mass.- Lasell College dropped a 74-70 decision against Rivier College tonight in GNAC mens basketball action. The visiting Raiders, who stand at 6-5 and fifth in the conference, gave the Lasers their first conference loss this season, and snapped an eight game win streak.

The Team of the Week recognizes the top performances nationally at each of the five positions from the previous week. Guitian was also named the GNAC mens basketball co-Player of the Week for the second week in a row, and for the second time this season, Guitian was selected as ECAC Player of the Week for the New England DIII Region for his efforts. Guitian averaged 23.6 points, 15.6 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2.67 assists per game over the course of the 3-0 week for the Lasers.

Providence, RI- Lasell had four athletes score double-figures against Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday, en route to a 103-95 win over the Wildcats. Jose Guitian (Miami, FL) and Junior Sainval (Miami, FL) united for over half of the teams total points, with Guitian knocking down 32 points, and Sainval connecting on twenty-three. Additionally, Brad Caravoulias (Dracut, Mass.) and Corey Godfrey (Cambridge, Mass.) supplied a further 29 points.
