Lasers Back on Track after 61-39 Win Over Albertus Magnus

Newton, Mass.- The Lasell College men's basketball team got back on track tonight with a 61-39 win over Albertus Magnus College.  After a slow start, the Lasers, now 13-6 overall and 10-2 in the GNAC, rallied in the second to top the Falcons for the second time this season.

In a low scoring first half, both teams shooting just over 20%, the Lasers came out on top with a three point edge at the half, 22-19.  Lasell's Jose Guitian (Miami, FL) recorded an unprecedented 16 rebounds in the first half, including his 1,000th career board which he snagged just under three minutes into the game.

Corey Godfrey (Cambridge, Mass.) started Lasell in the right direction with a quick two buckets to open the second.   Lasell stretched their lead to ten when Kevin Richard (New Orleans, LA) capitalized on a Falcon turnover for two.

However, it was at the eight minute mark when the Lasers really took off, started with a spark from Brad Caravoulias (Dracut, Mass.) who knocked down a three pointer to put the Lasers up 45-30.  Buckets from Charles Horton (Worcester, Mass.), Guitian, and Sean Joynes (Philadelphia, PA) ensued, and the Lasers were ahead by twenty with just under four minutes to play.  The Lasers stepped up their defense, holding the Falcons to just twenty second half points.

Walden St. Jude (Hartford, Conn.) and Francisco Cordova (Windsor, Conn.) were the Falcons top performers with 18 points and 16 rebounds between them.  Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) aided them with 5 boards and points, and 3 defensive blocks.

Guitian logged 24 points and 24 boards, and put away five blocks. Richard came up with 7 rebounds, more than half being offensive, and dished eight assists on the evening.  Caravoulias ended with 10 points and Junior Sainval (Miami, FL) finished with eight.

The Lasers are hosting Johnson & Wales University on Thursday, February 5th for their second matchup with the Wildcats this season.  Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
